2 Kings 9 ~ 10

9:1And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, Gird up your loins, and take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead. Compare
9:2And when you arrive there, look there for Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi; and go in and make him rise up from among his brothers, and bring him to an inner room. Compare
9:3Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, Thus says Jehovah, I have anointed you king over Israel. Then open the door and flee, and do not delay. Compare
9:4So the young man, the prophet's attendant, went to Ramoth-gilead. Compare
9:5And when he came, there the captains of the army were sitting. And he said, I have a word for you, O captain. And Jehu said, To which one of all of us? And he said, To you, O captain. Compare
9:6And he rose up and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head and said to him, Thus says Jehovah the God of Israel, I have anointed you king over the people of Jehovah, over Israel. Compare
9:7And you shall strike the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge the blood of My servants the prophets and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah at the hand of Jezebel. Compare
9:8And the whole house of Ahab will perish, and I will cut off from Ahab every male, bond and free, in Israel; Compare
9:9And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah; Compare
9:10And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the lot of Jezreel, and there will be none to bury her. Then he opened the door and fled. Compare
9:11And when Jehu came out to the servants of his master, someone said to him, Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you? And he said to them, You know the man and his ranting. Compare
9:12And they said, That is a lie; please tell us. And he said, Thus and thus he said to me, saying, Thus says Jehovah, I have anointed you king over Israel. Compare
9:13Then they moved quickly; and every man took his garment and put it under him on the bare steps; and they blew the trumpet and said, Jehu is king! Compare
9:14And Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had been defending Ramoth-gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael the king of Syria, Compare
9:15But Jehoram the king returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had inflicted on him when he fought Hazael the king of Syria). And Jehu said, If this is your desire, let no fugitive depart from the city and go and tell it in Jezreel. Compare
9:16So Jehu rode off in a chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram was lying ill there. And Ahaziah the king of Judah had come down to see Joram. Compare
9:17And the watchman stood on the tower in Jezreel and saw Jehu's multitude as he came, and he said, I see a multitude. And Jehoram said, Take a horseman, and send him to meet them; and let him say, Is there peace? Compare
9:18So the horseman went to meet him and said, Thus says the king, Is there peace? And Jehu said, What do you have to do with peace? Turn behind me. And the watchman reported, saying, The messenger went to them but did not return. Compare
9:19And he sent out a second horseman; and he came to them and said, Thus says the king, Is there peace? And Jehu said, What do you have to do with peace? Turn behind me. Compare
9:20And the watchman reported, saying, He went to them but did not return; and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, because he drives furiously. Compare
9:21And Jehoram said, Yoke the chariot! And someone yoked his chariot. And Jehoram the king of Israel and Ahaziah the king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and went to meet Jehu; and they found him in the lot of Naboth the Jezreelite. Compare
9:22And when Jehoram saw Jehu, he said, Is there peace, Jehu? And he said, What peace can there be, so long as the harlotries and sorceries of Jezebel your mother are so many? Compare
9:23And Jehoram turned the reins and tried to flee. And he said to Ahaziah, Treachery, Ahaziah! Compare
9:24And Jehu drew his bow with full strength and struck Jehoram between his arms; and the arrow went through his heart, and he sank down in his chariot. Compare
9:25And Jehu said to Bidkar his officer, Take him up, and throw him in the lot of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember how you and I were riding together behind Ahab his father, and Jehovah uttered this oracle against him: Compare
9:26Surely I have seen the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons yesterday, declares Jehovah; and I will repay you in this lot, declares Jehovah. And now, take him up and throw him in the lot, according to the word of Jehovah. Compare
9:27And Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this and fled toward the garden house; and Jehu pursued after him and said, Strike him too in his chariot. So they struck him at the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo and died there. Compare
9:28And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in his grave with his fathers in the city of David. Compare
9:29And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab, Ahaziah began to reign over Judah. Compare
9:30And Jehu came to Jezreel; and Jezebel heard of it. And she put paint on her eyes and adorned her head, and she looked out the window. Compare
9:31And as Jehu entered the gate, she said, Is all well, Zimri, you murderer of your master? Compare
9:32And he lifted up his face to the window and said, Who is on my side? Who? And two or three eunuchs looked out at him. Compare
9:33And he said, Throw her down. And they threw her down. And some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses, and he trampled her. Compare
9:34And he came in, and ate and drank, and said, Attend now to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter. Compare
9:35But when they went to bury her, they found no more of her than her skull and her feet and the palms of her hands. Compare
9:36And they returned and reported it to him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which He spoke through His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the lot of Jezreel the dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel; Compare
9:37And the corpse of Jezebel will be like dung upon the surface of the field in the lot of Jezreel, so that they will not say, This is Jezebel. Compare
10:1Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria, and Jehu wrote letters and sent them to Samaria to the rulers of Jezreel, the elders, and to the guardians of the children of Ahab, saying, Compare
10:2Now then, when this letter comes to you, since your master's sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fortified city and weapons, Compare
10:3Look for the best and fittest of your master's sons, and set him on the throne of his father, and fight for your master's house. Compare
10:4But they feared very greatly and said, If the two kings could not stand before him, how then can we stand before him? Compare
10:5And he who was over the household and he that was over the city and the elders and the guardians of the children sent word to Jehu, saying, We are your servants; all that you say to us, we will do. We will not make anyone king. What is good in your sight, do. Compare
10:6Then he wrote a letter to them a second time, saying, If you are mine and listen to my voice, take the heads of the sons of your master, and come to me at Jezreel tomorrow at this time. Now the king's sons, seventy men, were with the great men of the city, who had brought them up. Compare
10:7And when the letter reached them, they took the king's sons and slaughtered them, seventy men; and they placed their heads in baskets and sent them to him in Jezreel. Compare
10:8And the messenger came and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king's sons. And he said, Put them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning. Compare
10:9And in the morning he went out and stood and said to all the people, You are righteous. I conspired against my master and have killed him; but who struck all these? Compare
10:10Know therefore that nothing of the word of Jehovah, which Jehovah spoke concerning the house of Ahab, shall fall to the earth; for Jehovah has done that which He spoke through His servant Elijah. Compare
10:11So Jehu killed all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel and all his great men and his acquaintances and his priests, until he left him no one remaining. Compare
10:12Then he rose up and departed and came into Samaria. And while he was at the shepherds' meeting place on the way, Compare
10:13Jehu came upon the brothers of Ahaziah the king of Judah; and he said, Who are you? And they said, We are the brothers of Ahaziah, and have come down to greet the sons of the king and the sons of the queen mother. Compare
10:14And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive and slew them, forty-two men, at the pit of the meeting place; and he left not one of them remaining. Compare
10:15And when he departed from there, he came upon Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him; and he greeted him and said to him, Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart? And Jehonadab said, It is. And Jehu said, If it is, give me your hand. And he gave him his hand, and Jehu took him up to himself into the chariot. Compare
10:16And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for Jehovah. So they made him ride in his chariot. Compare
10:17And when he came to Samaria, he struck all who were left to Ahab in Samaria, until he had destroyed him, according to the word of Jehovah, which He spoke to Elijah. Compare
10:18And Jehu gathered all the people together and said to them, Ahab served Baal a little, but Jehu will serve him much. Compare
10:19Now call to me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be missing. For I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal. Whoever is missing will not live. But Jehu acted in subtlety, in order that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal. Compare
10:20And Jehu said, Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it. Compare
10:21And Jehu sent word throughout all Israel, and all the worshippers of Baal came; and there was not one left who did not come. And they came to the house of Baal, and the house of Baal was filled from one end to the other. Compare
10:22And he said to the one who was over the wardrobe, Bring out garments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought out the garments to them. Compare
10:23And Jehu and Jehonadab the son of Rechab came to the house of Baal; and he said to the worshippers of Baal, Search and see that none of the servants of Jehovah are here with you; only the worshippers of Baal should be here. Compare
10:24And they came to offer sacrifice and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed for himself eighty men outside; and he had said, He who allows any of the men to escape whom I bring into your hands will give up his life instead. Compare
10:25And when he finished offering the burnt offering, Jehu said to the guards and to the captains, Go in and slay them; let no one get out. And they struck them with the edge of the sword. And the guards and the captains threw them out, and they went to the inner room of the house of Baal. Compare
10:26And they brought out the pillars of the house of Baal and burned them. Compare
10:27And they broke down the pillar of Baal, and broke down the house of Baal and made it a latrine, as it is to this day. Compare
10:28Thus Jehu eradicated Baal from Israel. Compare
10:29However as regards the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, by which he caused Israel to sin, Jehu did not turn away from them, that is, the golden calves which were in Bethel and in Dan. Compare
10:30And Jehovah said to Jehu, Because you have done well in executing what is right in My eyes and have dealt with the house of Ahab according to all that was in My heart, your sons to the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel. Compare
10:31But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of Jehovah the God of Israel with all his heart; he did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam, by which he caused Israel to sin. Compare
10:32In those days Jehovah began to cut away portions of land in Israel, and Hazael struck them in all the borders of Israel Compare
10:33From the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the valley of Arnon, both Gilead and Bashan. Compare
10:34And the rest of the acts of Jehu and all that he did and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? Compare
10:35And Jehu slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his place. Compare
10:36Now the time which Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years. Compare
