1:1And Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. Compare
1:2And Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper chamber which was in Samaria and became ill. And he sent messengers and said to them, Go and inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I will recover from this sickness. Compare
1:3But the Angel of Jehovah said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise; go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and say to them, Is it because there is no God in Israel that you go to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Compare
1:4Now therefore thus says Jehovah, You shall not come down from the bed on which you have gone up, but you shall surely die. And Elijah departed. Compare
1:5And when the messengers returned to him, he said to them, Why have you returned? Compare
1:6And they said to him, A man came up to meet us and said to us, Go and return to the king who sent you, and say to him, Thus says Jehovah, Is it because there is no God in Israel that you send men to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed on which you have gone up, but you shall surely die. Compare
1:7And he said to them, What sort of man was he who came up to meet you and spoke these words to you? Compare
1:8And they said to him, A hairy man, and he was girded with a leather girdle around his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite. Compare
1:9And he sent a captain of fifty with his fifty to him. And the captain went up to him, and there he was, sitting on the top of the hill. And he said to him, O man of God, the king says, Come down! Compare
1:10And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty. Then fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty. Compare
1:11And again the king sent another captain of fifty with his fifty. And the captain answered and said to him, O man of God, thus says the king, Come down quickly. Compare
1:12And Elijah answered and said to them, If I am the man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty. Compare
1:13And again the king sent a captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up; and he came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and he entreated him and said to him, O man of God, may my soul and the soul of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight. Compare
1:14Already fire has come down from heaven and consumed the first two captains of fifty and their fifties; and now may my soul be precious in your sight. Compare
1:15And the Angel of Jehovah said to Elijah, Go down with him; do not be afraid of him. And he rose up and went down with him to the king. Compare
1:16Then he said to him, Thus says Jehovah, Because you sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron-was it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?-therefore you shall not come down from the bed on which you have gone up, but you shall surely die. Compare
1:17And he died according to the word of Jehovah which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram began to reign in his place in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, because he had no son. Compare
1:18And the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? Compare
2:1And when Jehovah was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. Compare
2:2And Elijah said to Elisha, Stay here, for Jehovah has sent me as far as Bethel. And Elisha said, As Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Bethel. Compare
2:3Then the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, Do you know that Jehovah will take away your master from over your head today? And he said, I too know it; be silent. Compare
2:4And Elijah said to him, Elisha, stay here, for Jehovah has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they came to Jericho. Compare
2:5And the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho approached Elisha and said to him, Do you know that Jehovah will take away your master from over your head today? And he said, I too know it; be silent. Compare
2:6And Elijah said to him, Stay here, for Jehovah has sent me to the Jordan. And he said, As Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So the two of them went on. Compare
2:7And fifty men from the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite them at a distance, while the two of them stood by the Jordan. Compare
2:8And Elijah took his mantle and wrapped it together and struck the water; and it parted to this side and that, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground. Compare
2:9And when they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I should do for you before I am taken from you. And Elisha said, Let a double portion of your spirit be upon me. Compare
2:10And he said, You have asked a hard thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, so will it be to you; but if not, it will not be so. Compare
2:11And as they went on and talked, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared; and they separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. Compare
2:12And Elisha saw it and cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen! And he did not see him anymore. And he grasped his clothes and tore them in two pieces. Compare
2:13And he picked up Elijah's mantle, which had fallen from him, and returned and stood by the bank of the Jordan. Compare
2:14And he took Elijah's mantle, which had fallen from him, and struck the water and said, Where is Jehovah, the God of Elijah? And when he also struck the water, it parted to this side and that, and Elisha crossed over. Compare
2:15And when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho opposite him saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him. Compare
2:16And they said to him, Here with your servants are fifty strong men; let them go and seek your master, lest the Spirit of Jehovah has taken him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley. And he said, You shall not send them. Compare
2:17But when they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, Send them. So they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find him. Compare
2:18And they returned to him while he stayed at Jericho; and he said to them, Did I not say to you, Do not go? Compare
