23:1Then Balaam said to Balak, Build me seven altars here, and have seven bulls and seven rams ready for me here. Compare
23:2And Balak did just as Balaam had spoken. And Balak and Balaam offered up a bull and a ram on each altar. Compare
23:3And Balaam said to Balak, Stand near your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps Jehovah will come to meet me; and whatever He shows me I will tell you. And he went to a bare height. Compare
23:4And God met Balaam, and he said to Him, I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on each altar. Compare
23:5And Jehovah put a word in Balaam's mouth and said, Return to Balak, and you shall speak this. Compare
23:6When he returned to him, there he was, standing beside his burnt offering, he and all the rulers of Moab. Compare
23:7And he took up his parable and said, From Aram Balak brought me, / The king of Moab from the mountains of the East. / Come, curse Jacob for me; / And come, denounce Israel! Compare
23:8How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? / And how can I denounce whom Jehovah has not denounced? Compare
23:9For from the top of the rocks I see him, / And from the hills I behold him. / Here is a people who live alone / And do not reckon themselves among the nations. Compare
23:10Who can count the dust of Jacob, / Or number the fourth part of Israel? / Let me die the death of the upright, / And let my latter end be like theirs! Compare
23:11And Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, but now you have altogether blessed them. Compare
23:12And he answered and said, Shall I not take care to speak what Jehovah puts in my mouth? Compare
23:13And Balak said to him, Come now with me to another place from which you may see them. You will see only the outside edge of them and not see them all; then curse them for me from there. Compare
23:14So he took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered up a bull and a ram on each altar. Compare
23:15And he said to Balak, Stand here near your burnt offering while I meet Jehovah there. Compare
23:16And Jehovah met Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said, Return to Balak, and you shall speak this. Compare
23:17When he came to him, there he was, standing beside his burnt offering, and the rulers of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, What has Jehovah spoken? Compare
23:18And he took up his parable and said, Arise, O Balak, and hear; / Listen to me, O son of Zippor: Compare
23:19God is not a man, that He should lie, / Nor a son of man, that He should repent. / Has He said, and will He not do it? / Or has He spoken, and will He not establish it? Compare
23:20Now I have received a word to bless; / Since He has blessed, then I cannot reverse it. Compare
23:21He has not beheld iniquity in Jacob, / Nor has He seen trouble in Israel; / Jehovah their God is with them, / And the shout of a king is among them. Compare
23:22God is the One who brought them forth out of Egypt; / He has as it were the horns of the wild ox. Compare
23:23Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, / Nor is there any divination against Israel. / Now it shall be said of Jacob / And of Israel, What has God wrought! Compare
23:24See, a people rises up like a lioness, / And like a lion they lift themselves up. / They shall not lie down until they eat the prey / And drink the blood of the slain. Compare
23:25And Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. Compare
23:26But Balaam answered and said to Balak, Did I not tell you, saying, All that Jehovah speaks, that I must do? Compare
23:27And Balak said to Balaam, Come now, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there. Compare
23:28And Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, which looks down upon the desert. Compare
23:29And Balaam said to Balak, Build me seven altars here, and have seven bulls and seven rams ready for me here. Compare
23:30And Balak did just as Balaam had said, and he offered up a bull and a ram on each altar. Compare
24:1And when Balaam saw that it pleased Jehovah to bless Israel, he did not go as at the other times to meet with enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness. Compare
24:2And Balaam lifted up his eyes and saw Israel dwelling according to their tribes, and the Spirit of God came upon him. Compare
24:3And he took up his parable and said, Balaam the son of Beor declares, / And the man whose eye is opened declares; Compare
24:4He declares, he who hears the words of God, / Who sees the vision of the All-sufficient One, / Falling down, but having his eyes uncovered: Compare
24:5How fair are your tents, O Jacob, / Your tabernacles, O Israel! Compare
24:6Like valleys they are spread forth, / Like gardens beside a river, / Like aloes which Jehovah has planted, / Like cedars beside water. Compare
24:7Water shall flow from his buckets, / And his seed shall be in many waters, / And his king shall be higher than Agag, / And his kingdom shall be exalted. Compare
24:8God is the One who brought him forth out of Egypt; / He has as it were the horns of the wild ox. / He shall eat up the nations, his adversaries, / And shall break their bones in pieces, / And shatter them with his arrows. Compare
24:9He couches; he lies down like a lion / And like a lioness; who will rouse him up? / Blessed is everyone who blesses you, / And cursed is everyone who curses you. Compare
24:10Then Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he struck his hands together. And Balak said to Balaam, I called you to curse my enemies, but now you have altogether blessed them these three times. Compare
24:11Therefore now flee to your place! I said I would greatly honor you, but now Jehovah has kept you away from honor. Compare
24:12And Balaam said to Balak, Did I not also speak to your messengers whom you sent to me, saying, Compare
24:13Even if Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of Jehovah, to do either good or bad from my own heart? What Jehovah speaks, that I will speak. Compare
24:14And now therefore, I am going to my people. Come, let me give you counsel as to what this people will do to your people in the last days. Compare
24:15And he took up his parable and said, Balaam the son of Beor declares, / And the man whose eye is opened declares; Compare
24:16He declares, he who hears the words of God / And obtains the knowledge of the Most High, / Who sees the vision of the All-sufficient One, / Falling down, but having his eyes uncovered: Compare
24:17I see Him, but not now; / I behold Him, but not near. / There shall come forth a Star out of Jacob, / And a Scepter shall rise out of Israel, / And He shall crush the corners of Moab / And break down all the sons of Sheth. Compare
24:18And Edom shall be dispossessed-- / Seir, His enemies, shall also be dispossessed-- / While Israel does valiantly. Compare
24:19And One from Jacob shall have dominion And destroy the remnant from the city. Compare
24:20And he looked on Amalek and took up his parable and said, Amalek was the first of the nations, / But his latter end shall come to destruction. Compare
24:21And he looked on the Kenites and took up his parable and said, Strong is your dwelling place, / And your nest is set in the rock. Compare
24:22Nevertheless Kain shall be burned / Until Asshur carry you away captive. Compare
24:23And he took up his parable and said, Alas, who shall live when God does this? Compare
24:24But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim, / And they shall afflict Asshur and shall afflict Eber; / And he also shall come to destruction. Compare
24:25And Balaam rose up and went back to his place, and Balak also went his way. Compare
25:1While Israel dwelt in Shittim, the people began to commit fornication with the daughters of Moab. Compare
25:2For they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. Compare
25:3And Israel joined itself to Baal-peor, and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel. Compare
25:4And Jehovah said to Moses, Take all the leaders of the people and hang them up to Jehovah before the sun, so that the fierce anger of Jehovah may turn away from Israel. Compare
25:5And Moses said to the judges of Israel, Each of you slay his men who have joined themselves to Baal-peor. Compare
25:6Just then one of the children of Israel came and brought a Midianite woman to his brothers in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole assembly of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. Compare
25:7And when Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the assembly and took a spear in his hand, Compare
25:8And he went after the man of Israel into the tent and pierced both of them, the man of Israel and the woman through her stomach. So the plague among the children of Israel was stopped. Compare
25:9And those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand. Compare
25:10Then Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, Compare
25:11Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned My wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with My jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My jealousy. Compare
25:12Therefore say, I now give him My covenant of peace; Compare
25:13And it shall be to him and to his seed after him the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made expiation for the children of Israel. Compare
25:14Now the name of the slain man of Israel, who was slain with the Midianite woman, was Zimri the son of Salu, a leader of a father's household among the Simeonites. Compare
25:15And the name of the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi the daughter of Zur, head of the people of a father's household in Midian. Compare
25:16Then Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, Compare
25:17Harass the Midianites and strike them; Compare
25:18For they have harassed you with their deception with which they have deceived you in the matter of Peor and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor. Compare
