2 Kings 11 ~ 12

11:1Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose up and destroyed all the royal seed. Compare
11:2But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the sons of the king who were to be killed; she put him and his nurse into the bedchamber. So they hid him from Athaliah, and he was not killed. Compare
11:3And he was with her, hidden in the house of Jehovah, for six years while Athaliah reigned over the land. Compare
11:4Then in the seventh year Jehoiada sent word and gathered the captains of the hundreds over the Carites and over the guards and brought them to him at the house of Jehovah. And he made a covenant with them and put them under an oath in the house of Jehovah, then showed them the king's son. Compare
11:5And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that you shall do: A third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath shall keep watch over the king's house; Compare
11:6And another third shall keep watch in the gate of Sur; and another third shall keep watch at the gate behind the guards. You shall keep watch over the house for a defense. Compare
11:7And the two divisions of you, all who go off duty on the Sabbath, shall keep watch over the house of Jehovah for the king. Compare
11:8And you shall surround the king, each man with his weapons in his hand; and whoever enters the ranks shall be put to death; and you shall be with the king in his goings and comings. Compare
11:9And the captains of the hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded them. And each took his men, those who came on duty on the Sabbath with those who went off duty on the Sabbath; and they came to Jehoiada the priest. Compare
11:10And the priest gave the spears and shields that had belonged to King David, which were in the house of Jehovah, to the captains of the hundreds. Compare
11:11And the guards stood, each man with his weapons in his hand, from the right flank of the house to the left flank of the house, by the altar and by the house, to guard the king all around. Compare
11:12And he brought the king's son out and gave him the crown and the testimony. And they made him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and said, Long live the king! Compare
11:13Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she went to the people at the house of Jehovah. Compare
11:14And she looked, and there was the king, standing by the pillar, according to the custom, with captains and their trumpets near the king. And all the people of the land rejoiced and blew the trumpets. And Athaliah tore her clothes and cried out, Treason! Treason! Compare
11:15And Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds who had been set over the army and said to them, Bring her out between the ranks, and anyone who follows her kill with a sword; for the priest said, She shall not be killed in the house of Jehovah. Compare
11:16And they made way for her, and she went to the house of the king through the horses' entrance and was killed there. Compare
11:17And Jehoiada made a covenant between Jehovah and the king and the people that they would be Jehovah's people, and also between the king and the people. Compare
11:18And all the people of the land went to the house of Baal and broke it down: The altars to him and his images they shattered to pieces, and they slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of Jehovah. Compare
11:19And Jehoiada gathered the captains of the hundreds and the Carites and the guards and all the people of the land. And they brought the king down from the house of Jehovah and came by way of the guard gate to the house of the king, and he sat upon the throne of the kings. Compare
11:20And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; for they had slain Athaliah with the sword at the house of the king. Compare
11:21Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign. Compare
12:1In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash began to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba. Compare
12:2And Jehoash did what was right in the sight of Jehovah all the days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him. Compare
12:3However the high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense in the high places. Compare
12:4And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the sanctified things which goes into the house of Jehovah-the money of everyone who passes through the numbering, the money of each person's assessment, and all the money that comes up in the heart of anyone to bring into the house of Jehovah - Compare
12:5Let the priests take, each man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair what is broken in the house, wherever anything is found broken. Compare
12:6But as of the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, the priests had not repaired what was broken in the house. Compare
12:7So King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the priests and said to them, Why have you not been repairing what is broken in the house? Now therefore take no more money from your acquaintances, but deliver it for what is broken in the house. Compare
12:8And the priests agreed that they would neither take money from the people nor repair what was broken in the house. Compare
12:9Then Jehoiada the priest took a chest and bored a hole in its lid, and he put it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of Jehovah. And the priests who guarded the threshold put all the money that came into the house of Jehovah into it. Compare
12:10And whenever they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest, the king's scribe and the high priest would go up and bind the money that came into the house of Jehovah in bags and count it. Compare
12:11And they would give the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the house of Jehovah; and these would pay it out to the carpenters and the builders who worked on the house of Jehovah, Compare
12:12And to the masons and to the stone hewers and for the purchase of timber and hewn stone, to repair what was broken in the house of Jehovah, and for any other outlay to repair the house. Compare
12:13But there were no cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or any vessels of gold or any vessels of silver prepared for the house of Jehovah out of the money that was brought into the house of Jehovah; Compare
12:14For they gave it all to those who did the work, who repaired the house of Jehovah with it. Compare
12:15And they did not ask for an accounting from the men into whose hands they had given the money to use for doing the work, for these worked faithfully. Compare
12:16The money from the trespass offerings and the money from the sin offerings was not brought into the house of Jehovah; it was the priests'. Compare
12:17At that time Hazael the king of Syria went up and fought against Gath and took it. And Hazael set his face to go up toward Jerusalem. Compare
12:18And Jehoash the king of Judah took all the sanctified things which Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers the kings of Judah, had sanctified and his own sanctified things and all the gold that was found in the treasuries of the house of Jehovah and the house of the king; and he sent it to Hazael the king of Syria. And he went up from Jerusalem. Compare
12:19And the rest of the acts of Joash and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Compare
12:20And his servants rose up and formed a conspiracy. And they struck Joash down in the house of Millo, on the way that leads down to Silla. Compare
12:21And it was Jozacar the son of Shimeath and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, who struck him down; and he died. And they buried him with his fathers in the city of David. And Amaziah his son reigned in his place. Compare
