11:1Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose up and destroyed all the royal seed.

11:2But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the sons of the king who were to be killed; she put him and his nurse into the bedchamber. So they hid him from Athaliah, and he was not killed.

11:3And he was with her, hidden in the house of Jehovah, for six years while Athaliah reigned over the land.

11:4Then in the seventh year Jehoiada sent word and gathered the captains of the hundreds over the Carites and over the guards and brought them to him at the house of Jehovah. And he made a covenant with them and put them under an oath in the house of Jehovah, then showed them the king's son.

11:15And Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds who had been set over the army and said to them, Bring her out between the ranks, and anyone who follows her kill with a sword; for the priest said, She shall not be killed in the house of Jehovah.

11:16And they made way for her, and she went to the house of the king through the horses' entrance and was killed there.

11:17And Jehoiada made a covenant between Jehovah and the king and the people that they would be Jehovah's people, and also between the king and the people.

11:18And all the people of the land went to the house of Baal and broke it down: The altars to him and his images they shattered to pieces, and they slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of Jehovah.

11:19And Jehoiada gathered the captains of the hundreds and the Carites and the guards and all the people of the land. And they brought the king down from the house of Jehovah and came by way of the guard gate to the house of the king, and he sat upon the throne of the kings.

11:20And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; for they had slain Athaliah with the sword at the house of the king.

11:21Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.

12:1In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash began to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

12:5Let the priests take, each man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair what is broken in the house, wherever anything is found broken.

12:6But as of the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, the priests had not repaired what was broken in the house.

12:7So King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the priests and said to them, Why have you not been repairing what is broken in the house? Now therefore take no more money from your acquaintances, but deliver it for what is broken in the house.

12:8And the priests agreed that they would neither take money from the people nor repair what was broken in the house.

12:9Then Jehoiada the priest took a chest and bored a hole in its lid, and he put it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of Jehovah. And the priests who guarded the threshold put all the money that came into the house of Jehovah into it.

12:10And whenever they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest, the king's scribe and the high priest would go up and bind the money that came into the house of Jehovah in bags and count it.

12:11And they would give the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the house of Jehovah; and these would pay it out to the carpenters and the builders who worked on the house of Jehovah,

12:12And to the masons and to the stone hewers and for the purchase of timber and hewn stone, to repair what was broken in the house of Jehovah, and for any other outlay to repair the house.

12:13But there were no cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or any vessels of gold or any vessels of silver prepared for the house of Jehovah out of the money that was brought into the house of Jehovah;

12:14For they gave it all to those who did the work, who repaired the house of Jehovah with it.

12:15And they did not ask for an accounting from the men into whose hands they had given the money to use for doing the work, for these worked faithfully.

12:16The money from the trespass offerings and the money from the sin offerings was not brought into the house of Jehovah; it was the priests'.

12:17At that time Hazael the king of Syria went up and fought against Gath and took it. And Hazael set his face to go up toward Jerusalem.

12:18And Jehoash the king of Judah took all the sanctified things which Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers the kings of Judah, had sanctified and his own sanctified things and all the gold that was found in the treasuries of the house of Jehovah and the house of the king; and he sent it to Hazael the king of Syria. And he went up from Jerusalem.
